Being Derrida

Being Derrida

Being Derrida. 2007-2012.

Multi-media performance/installation. Video demonstrating relative size of the 2 screens used in the installation. Live performance 40 mins. Installation: 8’ x 10’. Large projection screen, 32” television, table or desk, philosophy books, pair of pajamas, glasses, telephone, masking tape.

Both a performance and stand-alone installation, Being Derrida combines practice and theory to reflect and embody Derrida’s concepts through live performance, video installation, and physical engagement by the audience.

The audience re-creates Derrida’s movements (talking into a phone, handling a knife, walking down stairs) in sync with the videos, using the installation objects as a way of approaching Derrida’s work– to deconstruct and “be” Derrida.
