South African Stories
In October-November 2000, I was invited by a colleague from England to
join him at the University of Port Elizabeth to work with a group of young
women from the New Brighton Township. These young women had formed a performance
group, Tambora, mostly singing and dancing. I was there to teach workshops
on creating and performing autobiographically based text. These are some
of the stories that came out of the first
workshops.
For more information about my South Africa experience read the South
Africa Letter.
This work was supported by a grant from the Autumn
Harp Foundation, Bristol, VT and by the
generosity of friends and other supporters.
